WE all love RAMP right? well we love NOCHEXX too…

RAMP044 / NOCHEXXX by RAMP Recordings / PTN

> Can you try and explain the NOCHEXXX prodution set up – do you use
> computers, if so mostly samples or synths?

i used to do music with a computer, but i was unable to get them to
work for me. so i junked it in 2008 (that’s the birth of NOCHEXXX
right there) and decided to switch to outboard. i purchased an AKAI
MPC 2500 (see photo attached) and began sampling my vinyl. i’m doing
less of that these days – making more of my own sounds, sculpting on
my MS20 and other bits i have lying around. . all my NOCHEXXX releases
so far have been recorded onto 1/4 inch tape, however it is
troublesome and expensive format. i’m considering abandoning this part
of the process.

> Can you tell us about your record collection? Can we get a photo of your record collection?

ha, so you figured i’m a total vinyl junkie. i’ve gotten rid of every
other format. my record collection is actually relatively small and
terribly incomplete. i’m a vinyl pruner – always cutting back,
readjusting, recollaborating the torques etc LOL i kid myself by
trying to only buy records that stand the test of time. i’m not a
completest, so i don’t have that need to own every release by an
artist i like. the only artist i collect in that regard is the mighty
Goodiepal (see atached) his stuff transcends music though. i like to
try and find things that are different and facinating – i like rogue
music that trancends genres.

> Whats your fav record in your collection?

an impossible question to answer! for the moment it has to be the
Goodie Sygnok LP. it came with a genuine 500 Danish Kroner banknote,
signed by the man himself. the record itself is unplayable, the
consumer gets played haha. the scales wobble, but balance is always
restored. it’s a wonderful feeling being fiddled by the right pair of
hands.

> You like skateboarding right? Can you send me a link to yr fav skate video on youtube?

i’ve quit now. got fed up of being kicked out of places before
touching a curb. cambridge killed it for me, it’s the lamest place to
skate street (i’m not into ramp or designated skating areas) . CCTV
follows you everywhere, they knew your routine. i skated for about
15 years and nobody pulled a better Matt Hensley flip than me, not
even Matt Hensley!

favourite skate video? well there are so many sick styles from
different eras. here are some of my favourite
videos/sections/skaters.

The Search for Animal Chin
it’s the skaters bible – it contains a moral code, which skaters
should abide. the opening scene is the legendary Wallows spot in
Hawai. skaters still make pilgrimages to Wallows today

Lance Mountain
you can’t beat Lance Mountain’s comedic genius.

MIKE VALLELY – “Public Domain” (1988)
this section made me want to skating over corrugated iron.

Guy Mariano – Blind Video Days

FRANKIE HILL – Propaganda
when this came out, skating, quite literally got writ large.

infamous watergap scene from Jump off a Building

RODNEY MULLEN-powell peralta public domain 1988
almost forgot to add a freestyle section. watch a scientist skate.

TOM PENNY
had to get a British skater in this list and Tom Penny outclasses the rest.

for pure rudeness check
STEVIE WILLIAMS

FRED GALL

> Do you like ‘future garage’ ?

don’t pay much attention to be honest. i guess i should do my homework.

> How do you think Nochexxx fits with other RAMP & WERK artists.

fits like a black glove. lol
